CapitolWatch Applauds Senate for Unanimous Support of S. 2590

CapitolWatch applauds the Senate for their unanimous support for S. 2590, the Federal Funding Accountability and Transparency Act of 2006.

This important legislation, in combination with the House version (H.R. 5060), will help reduce the amount of taxpayer dollars wasted through earmarks (also known as “pork spending”) that up until now have gone relatively unchecked, and which have increased over 800% in the last decade thanks to members on both sides of the aisle.

Now, it is up to both chambers of Congress to iron out a plan to enforce their unique versions of this bill.

CapitolWatch remains committed to ensuring that the outrageous spending of the past is not repeated, and that the final legislation sent to the President is an effective demonstration to the taxpayers that Washington is serious about reducing the financial burden their out-of-control spending has become.

We would like to personally thank all of our members who contacted their Senators and urged them to support this bill, and will continue to fight for lower taxes through fiscal responsibility.

"So tonight, to you, the great silent majority of Americans, I ask for your support."

Richard M. Nixon, November 3, 1968
